DEHRADUN - Farmers engaged in floriculture in Uttrakhand’s Tajpur village are a happy lot now-a-days, as the region has seen a substantial increase in production of jervera flowers.

The demand for jervera flowers is high in the market because of its long shelf life.

The approaching Valentine Day is an additional boon as the demand for flowers increases during festival seasons and on special occasions.

“The demand for jervera flowers increases on the eve of new year, valentine day and during wedding season,” said RK Singh, Additional Development Officer, Agriculture Department.

The farmers are specifically excited about the approaching Valentine Day.

“Jervera flowers look beautiful in bunches. Jervera flowers can be used for interior decoration and on weddings. For gift purpose, jervera flowers are very good. Valentine Day is coming, so we are preparing for it. From business point of view the shelf life of the flower is good, hence the sale,” said Mamta Sharma, a farmer.

The industry has received a fillip, thanks to the efforts of the state government.

It is encouraging people to take up floriculture, by providing 40 per cent of the initial cost.

Singh said, ten more poly houses will be set up in the next financial year. (ANI)
