MELBOURNE - Indian High Commissioner to Australia Sujatha Singh has written to the Kevin Rudd government expressing anxiety of thousands of Indian parents over the series of attacks on Indian students in Australia eyeing upon a credible answer.

India is demanding stern action against all those involved in the horrifying attacks.

Sujatha Singh has written that the attacks on Indians especially in and around Melbourne are alarming, adding that it is important to understand that there is anger and frustration in India over the series of attacks on Indian students in Australia.

“The fundamental issue is the growing number of attacks, which seem to be disproportionately affecting Indians, especially in and around Melbourne,” she added.

Sujatha Singh has also questioned the Australian Government if the situation would improve or become worse in near future.

Victorian premier John Brumby had on Sunday met Sujatha Singh and briefed her on the measures put in place to improve law and order and the safety of foreign students in the state.

Singh’s meeting with Brumby came ahead of her visit to New Delhi to brief the Indian government on the steps taken by Australian government to prevent atttacks on Indians, mainly in the state of Victoria.

Issues relating to the security of the overseas students in Melbourne also came up for discussion during the meet.

Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith however, on Tuesday acknowledged that some of the recent attacks on Indian students and other people of Indian origin in his country appeared to be “racist in nature.” (ANI)
