Army convoy attacked in Kashmir

SRINAGAR - An Army convoy was attacked by protestors in Rawalpur area of Srinagar on Wednesday.

The people were protesting against the death of a teenager following teargas shelling on Sunday.

A 16-year-old Wamik Farooq, a resident of Rainawari was hit by a teargas shell on his head at Rajouri kadal during a clash between police and a mob on Sunday.

Farooq later succumbed at Soura Medical Institute.

Four Armymen were injured in the attack.

Shops and business establishments remained closed and transport kept off the roads even though no organisation had given a call for the strike on Wednesday.

Some youths pelted stones at vehicles in Batmaloo, Maisuma and Natipora and several other areas of old Srinagar city.

Police had to baton charge and use teargas shells to disperse the youth who were indulging in stone pelting.

Meanwhile, markets opened in other districts of the State, a day after the strike called by several separatist organisations including both factions of Hurriyat conference.

At least 100 people, including 30 security personnel, were injured in the stone-pelting incidents in the city since Sunday. (ANI)
