North eastern states celebrates Republic Day with pomp, gaiety

GUWAHATI - People of North-eastern states celebrated India’s 61st Republic Day with great enthusiasm.

The participation in the celebrations by a large of people sent a clear message to the militants that they should shun violence and allow development of the region.

The event showcased tabloids of various cultures prevailing in the states along with the country’s defence capabilities and technological advancements. ith an amalgamation of so many cultures and languages, the nation is a perfect example of Unity in Diversity.

In Assam, residents defied the boycott call by militants and came out with enthusiasm to take part in the celebrations.

Though incidents like blowing up of rail tracks in Dhemaji district on January 24 and a grenade blast in Chirang district on January 22 did cause concern, but the arrest of top ULFA leadership has made the people much more confidant.

The participation of students in cultural performances and the March past by army contingent was much appreciated.

The locals opine that militants always attack from the back, so the peopke in the main stream of the society should take a leap forward so that militants are pushed back.

There was a heavy security after miscreants exploded two bombs in Imphal on the eve of Republic Day,
However On Jan 26, a large number of people participated enthusiastically in the celebrations.

Thousands of people from all works of life came out on the occasion, which clearly indicated their desire for a violence free society.

NGO’S, cultural troupes, school children and workers from many departments captivated the audience through their cultural programmes.

“It was a really good show; in spite of the bandh called I am happy to be here. The show could have been even better if bandh would not have been called,” said Valley Rose, an audience, Manipur.

In Nagaland, Republic Day celebrations took place at the Civil Secretariat Plaza under heavy security.

State Governor Nikhil Kumar lauded the role of Naga societies in maintaining the peace and order in the society.

Cultural dances by various Naga tribes, march past by army contingents, award distributions and tableaux depicting development in state were main highlights of the event.

After years of instability, economic prosperity is now the buzzword among the Nagas.

“The message is that as we have pointed out the strengthening livelihood should be given. So we Urge people to take up bee keeping and more earnest way, so that economy of people is improved,” said a local in Nagaland.

In Tripura, Sikkim, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh a similar spirit of enthusiasm marked the celebrations. (ANI)
