GUWAHATI - The wildlife officials managed to catch hold of the two tigers that had escaped from the enclosure of a zoo here on Saturday.

The escape of the tigers had triggered an alarm among the visitors, who had come to the zoo to have a glimpse of the tigers.

After launching a rescue operation, the officials managed to tranquilise the adult tiger.

Two cats, a mother and a cub managed to sneak out of their iron enclosure when the animal keepers were disinfecting it and they left one of the cage doors open due to lack of proper coordination, claimed a zoo official.

Assam State Zoo District Forest Officer Narayan Mahanto said, “In the morning they were working inside. They used some disinfectants just to clean the area but unfortunately there was a lack in coordination. As a result one door remained open and both the mother and calf came out. At that time, being holiday, lot of visitors came to the zoo.”

“Immediately we shifted all the visitors to a safer place and the whole team of the Assam state zoo was engaged in rescuing both the animals. Finally after an operation of one hour and 45 minutes, we could rescue both the animals safely and they are now in the same enclosure,” added Mahanto.

Zoo authorities have ordered a probe into the entire incident. (ANI)
