RAJKOT - At least five students of Rajkot’s Atmiya Institute of Technology and Science were injured when police resorted to baton charge during a protest over instant hikes of college fees.
Over 1,000 students boycotted their classes and participated on a sit-in-demonstration, objecting to the steep increase in the annual fees from Rs 35,000 to Rs 45,000.
However, Atmiya Institute of Technology and Science Director Vallabhdas Swami put the onus on the state government by contending that a committee constituted had revised the fees structure.
Vallabhdas Swami said, “The matter relating to revision of fees is not in the hands of the college management. According to Supreme Court’s guidelines, every state appoints a Fees Revision Committee.”
“Similarly the committee stipulates fees of all the Sai colleges of state that run professional courses. This fees revision has also done by the committee as per the norms and guidelines,” he added.he injured students were admitted to the nearby hospital.
Earlier also, the college authorities had witnessed a similar tension between the students and the management over the fees hike. (ANI)
