MELBOURNE - A man in Australia has attached his left big toe to his hand as a makeshift thumb.
Geoff McLaren, a semi-retired gun salesman and firearms inspector, had lost his thumb in a workplace mishap.
But, he has got it replaced with his toe, after a complex 11-hour operation at Sydney Hospital.
The 62-year-old man from Milton, on the New South Wales south coast, is happy to have undergone the microsurgery.
“It looks like a swollen thumb. At least now it won’t take as long to cut my fingernails,” the Courier Mail quoted him as saying.
Sydney Hospital director of hand surgery Dr Tim Heath said McLaren should be able to fully use his toe-thumb in a year’s time after it shrinks to the size of a thumb. (ANI)
