SRINAGAR - Violent protests erupted in Srinagar on Wednesday over a security bunker in Srinagar’s main bus stand, which according to the locals is causing many problems to them.
Residents of Batmaloo area of the city along with bus drivers are demanding removal of the bunker as they allege that security personnel harass them in the name of frisking.
Police resorted to baton charge and fired tear gas shells to disperse the mob.
Many persons including police personnel were injured in this clash.
Analysts say that near daily street protests in the last two years are giving new life to the separatist movement in the disputed Himalayan region.
Mainly Muslim Kashmir is at the core of decades of hostility between India and Pakistan and the cause of two of the three wars they have fought since independence in 1947. The region is divided between the two countries, who both claim it in full. (ANI)
