PUNE - The Pune law student, who committed suicide this week after being allegedly ragged by his seniors, had been skipping classes for the past two months, his college principal has revealed.
Prashant Chitalkar, 22, a second-year student of Fergusson College, was reportedly upset over constant bullying by his seniors. On Sunday, he committed suicide by jumping into a well in Ahmednagar, where he had gone to visit his uncle.
Police fished out Chitalkar’s body from the well on Monday afternoon, and later his father Bandupath Chitalkar registered a case against four students of the same college for ragging.
“Today the father of the deceased Bandupath Chitalkar came to the police station and filed a case of ragging against four students studying with his son in the same college. Since the incident (ragging) took place in main Pune city, we have transferred the case to Deccan Police Station,” said M Bagwan, police inspector, Rahuri.
When asked about the incident Rohini Honap, principal of Deccan Education Society (parent institute of Fergusson College) said that the deceased has not been attending classes for the past two months.
“There has been no such incident reported either by the student or anybody on his behalf that such a thing is happening. Basically there has been no complaint of this sort made to us in any form whatsoever till date. That student from our record itself has not been in the college for the past two months. He has not attended any of the classes. Our attendance is taken everyday,” Honap told reporters on Wednesday.
The College Principal further added that Chitalkar was sharing his room with other two juniors and according to the juniors; Chitalkar had gone home two months back.
“We are only trying to collect facts as of now that who was staying with him and from our records it is two juniors who were staying with him. That is the only thing we have learnt that two junior students were in the same room but they are also saying that he was not there for the past two months. He had gone home,” Honap added.
Chitalkar had reportedly attempted to kill himself 15 days ago by consuming poison after some senior boys allegedly ragged him. (ANI)
