Pak Punjab assembly urges govt. to deny transit route to ‘enemy’ India

LAHORE - Punjab provincial assembly members have urged the Gilani government, through a resolution, to refuse any transit trade facility to India through Pakistan until the resolution of the water dispute and the long pending Kashmir issue.
The provincial lawmakers passed a resolution, which stated that India must be considered “an enemy” until the pending issue between the two countries are resolved.
The resolution, which was tabled in the assembly by Sheikh Allauddin, also called for a ban on Indian television channels.
“I can say this with full authority that the US ambassador has said that America has successfully negotiated with Pakistan to provide a trade transit facility to India.The government must keep in mind that India denied Muhammad Ali Jinnah a rail track for Bengal,” Allauddin said.
Allauddin also claimed that he has ‘proof” that India was giving money to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) for airing Indian channels in the country.
However, member of the provincial assembly Rana Afzal said being a signatory to a UN charter Pakistan cannot refuse to provide a trade transit facility to India.
It may be noted that Afghanistan had been demanding Pakistan to provide it the facility for export and import from India under the “1965 Transit Trade Agreement”. (ANI)
