BSF foils infiltration bid on J-K border

SRINAGAR - The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled another infiltration bid on Tuesday (January 26) at Kanachak border outpost in Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
The BSF and Pakistani rangers exchanged heavy fire after Pakistani rangers fired at the Indian positions, a BSF officer said.
The firing started at around 2 a.m. (local time) and continued till 7 in the morning.
“The movement of militants was seen near the post. When they were challenged they started firing on us and also used area weapons. For that firing, we also retaliated and the infiltration bid was successfully foiled. The firing continued at 3 to 4 posts in a large area and they even fired RPG’s on us,” said A. K. Surrolia, Inspector General (IG), BSF.
It was the 10th infiltration bid this month.
The infiltration bids come despite a ceasefire between the two armies and a three-metre high barbed wire security-fence along most of the 742-km Line of Control (LoC) and the 202-km international border.
India has accused Pakistani troops of cross-border firing to help militants cross over to the Indian side for subversive activities.
Police and security experts say violence may go up in Kashmir because hundreds of Pakistan-based militants may have sneaked into India in the past few months. (ANI)
