Three-day tribal fair held in Arunachal Pradesh village

NAMPONG - A three-day tribal-fair held this week was a major draw at the Nampong Village, located in Arunachal Pradesh.

Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Dorjee Khandu inaugurated the 4th Pangsau Pass Winter Festival (PPWF) 2010 and Minister of State for Defence Pallam Raju was also present on this occasion.

The State CM on this occasion said that for promotion of tourism, the maintenance of law and justice was required.

“Arunachal Pradesh is a hub for tourism. I request all of you to maintain law and justice only then we will have more tourists. I request to the Union Minister about the issue of the Myanmar road, which has been closed. Once the road is active it will promote tourism through the Myanmar-Arunachal Pradesh way,” said Dorjee Khandu, Arunachal Pradesh chief minister.

The objective of the festival was not just limited to promoting a regional cultural festival but to celebrate the diversity and ethnicity of the state along with the northeastern states and the neighbouring Myanmar.

“I am glad that today we also have participants from Myanmar from across the border. This festival is definitely a demonstration of the close ties that existed in this area and I hope that in the years to come, the trade that had happened in the past years would continue, and the historical linkages would strengthen,” said Pallam Raju, Minister of State for Defence.

Dance troupes from Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Myanmar performed during this gala event (Jan 20-22), which had about 53 delegates from Myanmar.

The troupes attracted the audience with their traditional post-harvest dances.

Cultural Folk Dances like Tangsa Rongrang War Dance, Assamese Bihu Dance, Bamboo Dance, Lungchang Dance (Changlang), Singpho (Bordumsa Dance), Galo Dance, Wancho Dance, Apatani Dance, Myanmarese Dance were some of the main attractions at the festival.

Thousands of visitors attended the event everyday. The visitors also participated in the competitions.

Meanwhile, a Biker Peace Rally was also a part of the competition.

“I am glad to come here. Like every year even this year the festival is very good,” said a visitor. (ANI)
