Sankaranarayanan takes charge as Maharashtra Governor

MUMBAI - Former Jharkhand Governor Kateekal Sankaranarayanan was sworn in as the new Governor of Maharashtra in Mumbai on Friday.
JN Patel, the acting Chief Justice of Bombay High Court administered the oath of office to Sankaranarayanan at the Raj Bhavan around 10 a.m.
Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and members of the state cabinet were present on the occasion.
The outgoing Maharashtra Governor SC Jamir was also present at the swearing in ceremony.
The 79-year old Sankaranarayanan began his journey into politics in 1946, when he became a member of Students Organisation.
He later went on to become the President of the Kerala Congress in 1977 after serving as General Secretary and President of the Palghat district unit of the party and also served as the Working Committee Member of the AICC.
Sankaranarayanan was also a member of the ministries of K Karunakaran and A K Antony. (ANI)
