MELBOURNE - Paul Rajendran, who has been accused of raping a 22-year-old woman, has tried to defend himself by claiming that he had almost broken the modeling contract with her, after he thought she was married.

Rajendran had allegedly lured the woman by faking that he worked in the marketing department of luxury lingerie brand, La Perla.

Also, he had made a false modeling offer to the woman.

Now, Rajendran has claimed in the court that he had tried canceling the deal, when he noted that the relationship status of the woman on her My Space page was ‘married’.

During the trial in the District Court, Crown Prosecutor Eric Balodis asked Rajendran: “Why was it so important to know whether she was married?”

He replied: “Because she was 23…and I just wanted to ask the question.”

Balodis further asked: “You wouldn’t expect a married woman to have sex with you, would you?”

Rajendran tried to defend himself saying: “No, but if I was going to rape her, it wouldn’t make a difference if she was married.

“I was just having a nice chat with this person. I know it’s all based on lies but it’s just a chat, just a conversation.”

Rajendran had apparently taken the woman to the Tank Stream Bar in Pitt St before allegedly raping her at his office in Hunter St.

However, Rajendran insists it was consensual sex, reports the Daily Telegraph. (Ani)
