MELBOURNE - Australia’s first video-game nightclub is set to open in Brisbane next month.

Mana Bar at 420 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley, started by four gaming enthusiasts, will feature Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 games between cocktails.

Mana Bar director Guy Blomberg said the club would have a wide selection of video games at five terminals, including several titles available in the bar “weeks before they’re available to the public”.

“We don’t want people grabbing a controller with 16 buttons and reading an instruction manual. We just want people to come in, pick up a controller and have a play,” the Courier Mail quoted him as saying.

Swinburne University media and communications lecturer Dr Mark Finn added: “Lots of young people gather around consoles at parties … it’s part of our party culture now.” (ANI)
