Indian, Nepal Army chiefs discuss security measures

KATHMANDU - Visiting Indian Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor met Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Chhatraman Singh Gurung here on Tuesday and discussed the security situation of the two countries including institutional cooperation and other matters of mutual interest.
General Kapoor, who arrived here on a four-day goodwill visit on Tuesday also attended a Wreath Laying ceremony at ‘martyrs memorial’ and received a guard of honor from Nepal Army.
Addressing the Principal Staff Officers of Nepal Army at Army Headquarters, he described the relationship between the national armies of the two countries as exemplary.
“We enjoy a special military relationship and we should try to make it exemplary for the rest of the world in the days ahead,” Kantipur quoted General Kapoor as saying.
General Kapoor is scheduled to visit the high altitude military academy of Nepal Army in Jomsom, Mustang and the pension distribution centre of the Indian Army in Khara on today.
He will also visit the western regional headquarters of Nepal Army in Pokhara and attend a dinner to be hosted in his honor in the evening.
On Thursday, General Kapoor will attend the investiture ceremony where President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav will confer on him the title of Honorary General of Nepal Army.
He is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and Defense Minister Bidhya Bhandari in Singha Durbar. (ANI)
