AMRITSAR - At least two people including a policeman have been injured in a shootout that took place between two gangs in Amritsar.

The incident occurred, when Ankur Nikhar, a gangster and his accomplices Sanjeev Babba and Sabbi, who came in a car, opened around five rounds of shots on Jatinder Kumar, a resident of Rambagh locality.

The other person injured has been identified as Sanjeev Kumar, a head constable from neighbouring Tarn Taran.

The cop, who happened to be around, shot back at the gangsters but got injured in the encounter.

“Today firing took place in front of Amritsar Bar Association in which a person named Raju was hit by a bullet, he is in a serious condition and is admitted in the Fortis Hospital. A policeman, who had come from Tarn Taran, also received a bullet on his leg,” said PK Rai, Superintendent of Police, Amritsar.

“Based on the account of the kin of Raju namely Sanjeev Baba, Ankur Likhari and Tajwinder, a probe is on and the culprits will be nabbed soon,” he added.

There are reports that an old rivalry may be the reason behind the shootout. (ANI)
