KOLKATA - Heavy security was put in place across Kolkata Friday, a day before Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visits the city to attend the 150th foundation day celebrations of St. Xavier’s College.

“We’ve made necessary arrangements following the guidelines of the prime minister’s security,” Kolkata Police Joint Commissioner (Headquarters) Jawed Shamim told IANS.

Police set up checking points at various places across the city.

The prime minister will be tele-inaugurating the new campus of the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian studies in Kolkata.
