LUCKNOW - Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Thursday hit back at the Union Government for blaming the states for price rise and alleged that the “Centre is working under the influence of capitalists.”
Addressing the media here, Mayawati also threatened to launch a nationwide campaign if Centre fails to take any steps to curb inflation.
On Wednesday, Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar had blamed the State Governments for rise in the prices of essential commodities.
She blamed the Centre’s economic, import and export policies for the current situation.
“Tendency to benefit capitalists and big businessman resulted in prices rise,” Mayawati said.
She said rather than blaming State Governments the Centre should change its policies.
“Instead of framing capitalist-oriented policies, the Centre should frame policies keeping in mind the common people,” Mayawati said.
She said the Centre failed to take timely action to control prices of foodgrains, pulses and sugar and alleged that by making irresponsible statements, central ministers encouraged hoarders and blackmarketeers.(ANI)
