MUMBAI - Renowned fashion designers Rohit Bal and Manish Malhotra displayed their collections at the Chivas fashion show here on Sunday.
Rohit Bal’s Chivas studio collection titled ‘Yasas’ was inspired by the resplendent glory of India’s rich cultural heritage. Going back into the archives of ancient Indian costumes, the textiles, the colors and the embroideries were in itself a journey into the past of this magnificent culture.
According to the designer, through this collection, he wanted to show the old India in the modern context.
“The collections are inspired by my Chivas studio collection called ‘Yasas’, which means glory in Sanskrit. This is basically old India, which I wanted to show in the modern context. I wanted to showcase the old craft of India, like the old embroidery, printing and dyeing and printing techniques. Taking inspiration from the fact that India was once called a golden peacock, I wanted to recreate that in a modern sense of opulence and exuberance,” said Rohit Bal.
Manish Malhotra also showcased his designs in the fashion show. The colour black seemed prominent in his designs, which was a break away from his bridal wear and use of bright colours.
“I wanted to break away from my bridal wear collections and the pretty colours, which I have used in the past. So we have used a lot of black in my designs, which I generally don’t do. If you notice, there are a lot of accessories and prints which were especially created by us for the collection,” he said.
Bollywood stars including Urmila Matondkar, Sameera Reddy, Celina Jaitley, Sonam Kapoor and Filmmaker Karan Johar also attended this grand event.
It is a three-day event by Chivas Fashion Studio that fuses the finest in Photography, Sculpture, jewel craft, music, fashion and mixology. After its launch in New York, London, Madrid and Sydney, the Chivas Studio was finally being launched in India. (ANI)
