GUWAHATI - Two ULFA cadres were killed in a fierce encounter with the security forces along the Assam-Meghalaya border on Sunday, while one of them managed to escape.

The Border Security Force (BSF) officials said the three ULFA cadres led by sergeant major Jayanta Kalita alias Jintu, were moving from Byrnihat in Meghalaya towards Sonapur in Assam.

The encounter took place on the outskirts of Guwahati near Khetri, when a joint team of BSF, CRPF and Assam police stopped them.

The self-styled ULFA leader Kalita managed to escape into the Meghalaya forests, added BSF officials.
The two killed ULFA cadres are yet to be identified, but the BSF speculates them to be Kalita’s bodyguards.
The BSF personnel recovered a 9mm pistol, a magazine, one grenade and six life rounds from the slain cadres.

Meanwhile, the operations are on to catch the fleeing ULFA leader. (ANI)
