PARGWAL AKHNOOR - Border Security Force personnel on Saturday foiled yet another infiltration bid by suspected militants along India-Pakistan border in Pargawal sector of Akhnoor here.

The security personnel noticed a group of suspected militants moving near the International Border (IB) in Sidhravan border out post (BoP) area in Pargawal sub-sector, 45 kilometres from here, around 4.30 am on Saturday.

As the BSF patrol party picked up the movement near the fence, the suspected militants suddenly fired at them. It is significant to mention that the militants and Pakistan Rangers fired at least 600 rounds to facilitate the infiltration bid.

However, suspected militants managed to escape.

A flag meeting with the Pakistani rangers was also held in the afternoon.

Major General Surinder Nag GOC Tiger Division said, “Inputs are that, this is a foiled infiltration attempt. As you know terrorist are trying their best to infiltrate in our area. In this area Border Security Force (BSF) is managing border and we support and help them. They (terrorists) have tried their best , but this is a failed infiltration. And from Pakistan side they cut the wire but could not cross the fence. There was firing but after that infiltrators fled from the spot.”

Meanwhile, the troops of 52 BSF battalion have launched a search operation to track them.

Also, Police forces and Village Defence Committees (VDCs) have been put on high alert in Ramgarh sector after the incident.

The infiltration bids come despite a ceasefire between the two armies and a three-metre (yard) high barbed wire security-fence along most of the 742-km (460-mile) LoC. But militants seem to have breached the barrier.

Pakistan has consistently denied its involvement in abetting the anti-India insurgency that has killed more than 47,000 people. By Tahir Nadeem Khan(ANI)
