IMPHAL - A police commando was injured on Wednesday in a grenade attack at the residence of former Manipur Chief Minister Radhabinod Koijam Singh.
Police officials said the scooter-borne assailant fled after lobbing a grenade at the residence of Koijam Radhabinod Singh.
“Just before the explosion, the guard saw one small vehicle, Activa vehicle but he cannot exactly identify that Activa is the one, the culprit involved or not. As soon as the explosion occur, we heard from the little away from the area, immediately we rushed there. The matter is under investigation and we suspect the explosive device is of Chinese made hand grenade,” said l. Kailun, senior Superintendent of Police, Imphal West.
Koijam Singh, now a legislator and president of the Manipur unit of the Nationalist Congress Party, was inside the house when the grenade attack took place.
Singh said the grenade attack could have been part of an extortion bid and may not be related to any militant activity. (ANI)
