LAHORE - After the reorganization of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Nawaz Sharif is likely to be elected the party’s new president, while Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is expected to reclaim the office of the party’s Punjab president.

According to the Daily Times, the above developments are part of the party’s reorganisation campaign following the dissolution of the party’s various bodies on November 7 last year.

Sources said Sartaj Aziz or Ahsan Iqbal could be elected the PML-N central general secretary, while one amongst Khwaja Asif, Raja Ashfaq or Khawaja Saad Rafiq would hold the office in Punjab.

Saleem Zia, Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi and Khuda-e-Noor might be the PML-N’s presidents in Sindh, the NWFP and Balochistan respectively, they added.

Nawaz Sharif, who is the PML-N chief, is the chairman of the party’s Central Organizing Committee (COC), while Shahbaz, Saleem Zia, Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan Abbasi and Khuda-e-Noor are chairmen of the PML-N’s provincial organizing committees in Punjab, Sindh, the NWFP and Balochistan respectively.

Nawaz became the president of his party in 1988, after the then PML split into two factions. (ANI)
