DARJEELING - Members of the Vidyarthi Morcha of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) began a relay hunger strike in Darjeeling pressing for the creation of separate Gorkhaland state on Sunday.
Earlier, the students had earlier blocked the National Highway that continued for five days after which they called off this mode of stir.
The members are now sitting on hunger strike at various places along the National Highway-55 and National Highway-31, connecting the region with the rest of India.
According to GJM Vidhyarthi Morcha Secretary Amrit Ranjan, “If the tripartite talks fail to consider our demand then we are going to call a strike for 75 hours and if the government still does not consider it, then we will go on strike for 108 hours and if the authorities still not relent then we are ready to die for the cause of Gorkhaland.” (ANI)
