JAIPUR - Dausa MP Kirori Lal Meena was arrested along with 13 others on Wednesday for protesting against the state government’s inaction in delivering Justice to a tribal woman allegedly raped by a senior police officer twelve year ago.
They were arrested under Section 151 of CrPC (arrest to prevent the commission of cognizable offences) and taken to Ajmer Jail, while the others were sent to home.
Extra forces were deployed at the protest site near the Civil Line Railway crossing as a precautionary measure.
The woman was allegedly abducted and taken to Noida in Uttar Pradesh in January 1997 where she was allegedly raped by former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Madhukar Tandon, then posted at the police headquarters.
In February, the same year, the victim filed a case both in Noida and in her native village. Tandon was on leave when the case was filed. He has been missing since.
Rajasthan Police has failed to trace or arrest him, despite the fact that he has property in Jaipur.
The victim and her husband now survive by working the fields in their village.
In its election manifesto of 1998, the Congress government had promised to bring Tandon to book. But action is yet to be taken. (ANI)
