Telangana issue : Hyderabad police chief for stern action against violence

HYDERABAD - : Hyderabad Police Commissioner Prasad Rao on Tuesday warned that he would initiate action against those indulging in violence during the proposed shutdown called by the Telangana supporters and Osmania University students.

Addressing the media here, Rao said as a precautionary measure, additional police personnel will be deployed during the shut down which is to be observed on Wednesday in the Telangana region.

Rao also issued a stern warning to Osmania University students not to let their stir take a violent turn in Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

“Osmania University has become the hub of all the programme and lot of churning is taking place there. So, we are watching the development, so we are trying to control the situation in the sense so whatever activities takes place within the campus, if its only confined to the campus its okay, but if it spills out to the neighbouring areas and …form of violence, we are trying to prevent that and we are taking actions by booking cases against the culprits,” Rao said.

As for the influence of Maoist activity in the Osmania University campus he noted that sleuths of intelligence wing are thoroughly probing all the aspects.

“Maoist have (also) called for a Bandh (shutdown) on January 2, its impact is going to be felt mainly in Telangana region, along the Andhra-Orissa border and neighbouring areas. In the city also its impact would be there. So keeping in view various factors, we are taking all the preventive measures,” Rao added. (ANI)
