SRINAGAR - Hundreds of Christians braved the chilly weather and joined the mass in Srinagar on the occasion of Christmas amid tight security on Friday.
People all faiths and religion gathered at city’s Holy Family Catholic Church and enjoyed the festival with enthusiasm and fervor.
Devotees made special prayers for the return of peace in the valley, which has been struggling with militant rebellion.
“We always pray for the return of peace to our valley, I want that all of us should pray for peace because our state as well as our country needs peace at this moment …apart from peace, we also prayed for global warming (problem), we must take adequate steps to deal with global warming,” said Shirley, a devotee.
Father Breto, head priest of the Church spread the message of love on the occasion.
“We prayed for the global warming and terrorism (eradication) as both are against humanity. I think God, who entered in us or mankind, wants to tell us that violence is not the only option left to us and love can be the best option that he (God) gives us and only through love we can win the heart of others, through love we can restore peace and tranquility,” Father Breto said.
Many locals and tourists also joined the celebrations.
“We came from Kerala on a vacation here. Today is the Christmas Day so we came here with family as we thought to celebrate Christmas in Kashmir. It would be a wonderful event so we are here,” said George, a tourist from Kerela. (ANI)
