Washington, Jun.9 (ANI): The United States has continuously been pressing Pakistan to to act against the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which carried out he ghastly November 2008 terror attacks, a top US official has said, adding that New Delhi understands America’s strategy concerning Islamabad.

“The United States consistently emphasizes… that it is very important in particular for Pakistan to take action against these groups that are targeting not only India but increasingly the United States,” Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia Robert Blake said.

Blake also said that inspite of some concerns, India understands Washington’s strategy regarding Pakistan.

He said that even though New Delhi has some inhibitions over the Obama administration’s plan to offer Islamabad huge military aid, it is well aware that helping Pakistan in its counter-terrorism efforts was important.

“I think they understand that we are trying to build up Pakistan’s counter-insurgency capabilities,” The Dawn quoted Blake, as saying.

Referring to India’s foremost concern about military aid being misused by Pakistan, he said the White House has sought Islamabad’s “assurances that the weapons that are provided will not be used against India.” (ANI)
