Ferry capsize in Bangladesh leaves 12 dead

DHAKA - The sinking of an overpacked ferry in Bangladesh’s northeastern Sunamganj District on Tuesday has claimed the lives of 12 people, including 10 children.
Reports quoted local officials as saying that the mishap occured 140 kilometres north of Dhaka.
Among the ten children killed are six schoolgirls and four infants. Two women were also killed.
A search-and-rescue operation is still on for ferry’s remaining 50 odd passengers. The death toll is expected to rise, official sources here said.
The ferry was travelling from Balijuri village to Badshaganj village, and was in daily use. (ANI)
