In Today in History for Friday, May 21, The Associated Press erroneously reported that Ensign Jean Marie Butler became the first woman to graduate from a U.S. service academy, the Coast Guard Academy, in 1980. In 1978, the U.S. Merchant Marine graduated eight women at its service academy in Kings Point, N.Y.
