China’s enhanced military capabilities for its own security

NEW DELHI - China’s ambitious national defense capabilities are for its own security rather than for challenging or threatening other nations, a senior Chinese official has reassured.
Speaking at the 9th International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Asian Security Summit, Ma Xiaotian, deputy chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army sought to highlight the difference between China’s aspirations and the path followed by Western superpowers saying that, unlike the latter, China’s development and military progress will not result in its seeking world hegemony.
“The development of China’s national defense capabilities is not aimed at challenging, threatening or invading any other country, but at, first and foremost, maintaining its own security, ” Xinhua News Agency quoted Ma, as saying.
Ma insisted that China’s vision of development was holistic and all-embracing. He said that only the common good of the world could lead to sustainable development.
“We believe maintaining security in the Asia-Pacific region serves China’s interest, and it is also China’s responsibility,” Ma said, adding that China has the responsibility to make greater contribution to regional peace and prosperity and it is willing to do so. (ANI)
