UN vote on Iran sanctions may be deferred

WASHINGTON - A U.N. vote on Iran nuclear sanctions will likely be pushed back because of fallout from the Israeli raid on the Gaza aid flotilla, sources have said.
According to Politico, the Obama administration had been planning to bring a new Iran sanctions resolution to a vote at the U.N. Security Council on Thursday but diplomatic sources said the vote is not likely to take place this week.
On Tuesday, at a breakfast meeting with journalists, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu criticized the United States for not outright condemning the Israeli actions.
He also expressed longstanding Turkish opposition to imposing economic sanctions on Iran, which Davutoglu said would severely impact the Turkish economy, just as Iraq sanctions did a decade ago.
Turkey and Brazil are currently two of the 10 non-permanent members of the U.N. Security Council.
Three past U.N. Security Council Iran sanctions resolutions have passed by overwhelming margins and the U.S. and key allies have sought as close to unanimity in a new Iran sanctions vote. (ANI)
