STORY: Shihan Yoshiaki Ajari, an 8th Dan Japanese Grandmaster has completed training over 130 Karate-Do players at the main indoor stadium of Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Manipur’s Imphal city.
The Wadokai Karate-Do Federation of India, in association with Wadokai Karate-Do Association of Manipur, had organised this training camp under the patronage of the North Eastern Council.
Ajari is also the founder of Japanese Karate-Do Federation Wodakai, in the United States of America (USA).
“Instruction should be given in right way. Physically they are very good. If they get proper instruction they can compete well internationally also,” said Shihan Yoshiaki Ajari, an 8th Dan Japanese Grandmaster.
The eight-day camp, which began on Sunday (May 9), was primarily used to brush up their technical skills. Players from Manipur, Maharastra, Arunachal Pradesh, etc participated in the coaching camp.
“Previously I have lot of problems especially in basics, but after joining this training camp my doubts are clear,” said Laurigaun, a Karate-Do player.
The players felt that foreign coaches would not only improve their skills, but also put them at par with international Karate-Do players.
Nihon Shotokan Pemba Tamang, an 8th Dan an Indian non Japanese Grandmaster, who has been the World Champion in 1985 in Karate-Do, had also imparted training to over 70 Karate-Do from 14 May to 15 May.
After the coaching camp a one day National Karate-Do Championship was conducted on Sunday (May 16).
Karate-Do that originated from Japan is a form of traditional Budo (martial way of life). It is commonly thought of as a way to defend oneself from attack.
