STORY: Fresh from winning the World Chess championship for the fourth time, Indian grandmaster Viswanathan Anand returned Sunday (May 23) after defeating Veselin Topalov in Sofia to a resounding welcome by his fans in southern Chennai city.

Anand’s wife, Aruna, said that she felt very happy after his win.

“It is an excellent victory because with this victory it put him in all-time greats in the chess. Personally, I feel very happy because he played very well, he kept up with the pressure and he showed a lot of mental toughness. It feels great to be back in Chennai with all you people giving a great welcome,” said Aruna.

Anand’s father, K Viswanathan, added that Anand’s wins had not gone to his head and that the Grandmaster retains his humility.

The 40-year-old chess Grandmaster had previously won the title in 2000, 2007 and 2008.
