STORY: The political drama that has been going on in the India’s eastern state of Jharkhand has finally come to its conclusion as India’s main opposition, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), withdraws its support from its ally, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Monday (May 24).
JMM chief Shibu Soren’s defiant attitude towards the BJP-JMM coalition prompted the BJP to withdraw support from his government.
The BJP will meet Jharkhand Governor M. O. Hasan Farook Maricar to formally inform him of their decision to withdraw support from the JMM.
“We wanted a stable government for Jharkhand so that the state can proceed towards development. But we were unsuccessful because our coalition partner was not acknowledging the rules of the coalition and that is why today (May 24) at 1130, I will go to the governor (M. O. Hasan Farook Maricar) to present the letter of withdrawal,” said Sanjay Seth, BJP spokesperson.
Arjun Munda is now all set to become the chief of the state, with BJP leading the state government for the next 28 months.
Jharkhand has been facing a political crisis since April 28 after Shibu Soren’s JMM-led coalition voted against the BJP’s cut motion brought up by them in the Lok Sabha, the Lower House of Parliament the previous day.
The JMM-BJP coalition government was formed in Jharkhand about four months ago.
