Summary Box: Dropouts rise in loan help program
BORROWERS AT RISK: About 1.2 million homeowners have enrolled in the Obama administration’s $75 billion loan assistance program since March 2009.
GETTING HELP: More than 299,000 homeowners had received permanent loan modifications as of last month, the Treasury Department said. That’s about 25 percent.
FAILURES RISE TOO: About 277,000 homeowners, or 23 percent of those enrolled, have dropped out during a trial phase that lasts at least three months.
