NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The country is reeling under a severe heat wave and the national capital is facing the worst as the IMD has reported. The highest temperature recorded in Delhi yesterday turned out to be the highest in the previous 8 years. The IMD data reveals that the maximum temperature in the national capital touched a blistering 45.4 degrees Celsius on Monday which is quite shocking. In 2002, Delhi witnessed a temperature of 46 degrees Celsius. Yesterday’s highest temperature was 4 degrees above the normal temperature. The excessive temperature made most of the people in the city stay indoors. The roads were mostly deserted.

However, the workers working at the roadside beautification projects as well as construction sites for the upcoming Commonwealth Games did not get any respite from the scorching heat and the temperature. The IMD officials ruled out the possibility of the heat wave reducing in near future. The IMD officials said that it will remain above 40 degrees for the next few days. The weather experts have also warned that the heat wave will be accompanied by high levels of humidity.

Even the minimum temperature of Monday recorded in Delhi on Monday was a few notches above normal. However, Tuesday may bring thunderstorm in some parts of Delhi, as the IMD has predicted. Unlike other states like West Bengal Delhi is yet to get adequate shower and it has played a role behind the continued heat wave. The maximum temperature in Delhi will stay over 40 degree Celsius for the next few days as it is being assumed.
