NEW DELHI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Cyclone Laila which is now in formation over the Bay of Bengal may affect the onset of the monsoon in the country as the weather experts feel. The cyclone is expected to hit the coastal regions of India on May 20 and it may delay the monsoon. IMD official D. Sivananda Pai said that the monsoon may disintegrate as a result of the tropical cyclone. The onset of the monsoon may be postponed by a week or so as it is being expected by the met office. This can have a long term result on the monsoon crop this year as a large section of the farmers in India rely on the monsoon showers for their crops to grow. The monsoon will be weakened for some time as two powerful weather systems cannot co exist.

The weather office officials are on alert as they remember the ravages wrecked by Cyclone Aila last year. The coastal regions in states like Orissa which are typically vulnerable to storms have been put on alert and evacuations have been arranged in these areas. Flooding is also another possibility caused by powerful cyclones. It is being expected that Cyclone Laila may lash the coastal regions in Bangladesh after blazing through eastern India.

Ever since Cyclone Laila has been detected in its primary stage the authorities in Bangladesh have asked the fishermen to stay aware. They have been asked not to venture into deep sea. Typically Bangladesh is lashed by more number of storms every year compared to the adjacent countries owing to its geographical position.
