Chennai Corporation To Eradicate Begging

CHEANNAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Chennai is considered one of the major Metropolitan cities of India and still it is haunted by one big menace, begging on the streets. To tackle with this perennial problem Chennai Corporation has decided to implement harsh beggar removal policies in near future. The corporation has announced that it will remove the beggars from the streets and arrange for their rehabilitation. The mayor of the city M. Subramanian said that the corporation has plans to remove the beggars who are found at the traffic intersections first. Even infants are used by some beggars to get money from passers by in some streets by a section of beggars.

The mayor of Chennai Corporation also said that a timeframe would be put in place to remove the beggars from the streets of the city. The beggars will be asked to vacate the streets within a deadline failing which they will be forcefully removed. The mayor has also said that help from the police, NGOs and Social Welfare Department will be sought in this regard. The beggars cause a lot of inconvenience for the residents as they stay and sleep on the pavements so that the pedestrians are forced to walk on streets which raise the chance of accidents.

Chennai Corporation will crack down on beggars as they cause health hazards and carry lot of ailments owing to their unhealthy lifestyle. The beggars also create problem for the car owners and motorists who cannot drive safely because of them on busty city roads. The initiative taken by the corporation is a Nobel one and other metros should follow suit.
