Summary Box: Commodities fall as dollar gains

STRONG DOLLAR: A strong dollar again hurt the price of most commodities Monday. Ongoing concerns about the health of Europe’s economy helped the dollar.

METALS RETREAT: Most metals, particularly platinum, palladium and copper, all fell because of the stronger dollar and worries about a slowdown in global demand.

OIL DROPS: Benchmark crude continued its plummet, dropping below $70 a barrel for the first time since February. It’s down nearly 20 percent since hitting an 18-month high two weeks ago.
