CHENNAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)-Anuradha Ramanan, one of the most prolific writers of the modern day passed away on May 16, Sunday. Anuradha Ramanan was 62 years old and had been suffering from serious heart problems. On Sunday she was reported to have encountered a cardiac arrest which she failed to survive.

Anuradha Ramanan was released from a private hospital of Adyar just a few days back and doctors had confirmed that her condition had improved. However, the sudden cardiac arrest on Sunday was uncontrollable and took away her life. Anuradha Ramanan lives behind her two daughters Sudha and Subha. Her notable works includes “Sirai” (Jail), “Malarin Payanam” (The Journey of a Flower) and “Kootupuzhugal” (Worms Colony) which have been adopted several times and crafted into Tamil and Kannada films. Besides movies, Anuradha Ramanan’s short stories like “Archanai Pookal”, “Kanakanden” and “Paasam” were transformed into scripts for soap operas on the small screen. It was the move “Sirai” based upon her novel by the same name, that made actress Lakshmi bag the national award for her protagonist role in the movie.

Being the daughter of yesteryear actor R Balasubramanyam, Anuradha Ramanan has a huge number of novels and stories to her credit. Till date she has written 1230 short stories and more than 800 novels which drew elements of inspiration from daily chores of human life. In her entire career of 30 years, she won many awards and accolades and her works contributed to the enrichment of the Tamil and Telugu literature. Anuradha Ramanan was regarded to be one of the jewels of Tamil literature whose works served to be an instance of her intellect and sheer knowledge which accounts for her greatness. Anuradha Ramanan’s funeral shall be held at the Besant Nagar crematorium.
