WASHINGTON (GaeaTimes.com) The Spokane Convention Center in Washington saw the presence of more than a thousand women, all assembled to attend the annual luncheon of the ‘Women Helping Women’ last Monday. This year’s luncheon saw Liz Murray as its guest speaker, the same Liz Murray who has come far in life from being a homeless girl at the age of 15 to graduating from Harvard. The 2010 luncheon date held on Monday was the 18th annual event organized by the organization named ‘Women Helping Women’. This event was attended by at least 1600 women who together helped to raise the total amount of $242,000 as charity. The star face for this year’s luncheon was Liz Murray who is by herself a great woman considering what all she has achieved in life, from being homeless once upon a time to becoming a graduate from the renowned Harvard University.

Liz Murray’s speech on the occasion was inspiring. It sent a special message to all the parents present in the auditorium, that no matter what the circumstances are in which you are living, it should never be an excuse to compromise on education.

The total fund which has been collected from the event spearheaded by Liz Murray will be passed on to the several agencies and organizations operating in the Inland Northwest regions to help the needy women and children in these areas. According to the reports of the ‘Women Helping Women’ representatives, this year’s total collection has exceeded the previous year’s amount. However it is still not even minutely close to the fund collected in the year 2008, a year in which the organization’s luncheon raised a total amount of $300,000. Considering those were the pre-recession years one could have managed to raise such a high amount.
