Summary Box: Sears’ growth plan
TWO PATHS: Sears Holdings Corp. will both revamp the merchandise and services in its stores and boost its Internet business, a two-pronged approach the retailer hopes will continue the momentum it gained during the recession.
IN THE STORE: Sears is adding store-brand products at Kmart and reinventing much of its Kenmore line of appliances, expanding layaway at both Sears and Kmart and even adding more high-end fitness equipment at Sears. It’s also trying to bring in more clothing shoppers to its Sears stores.
ON THE WEB: Sears is also upping its online shopping services and creating mobile phone apps for myGofer, which allows shoppers to select groceries that they can have delivered or can pick up at a Kmart.
