AUSTIN, (GaeaTimes.com)- Digital Electric Meters which are soon to be installed in Texas region by Energy Point and Oncor has been finally put to test by the PUC (Public Utility Commission) Board. Reportedly, the PUC Board has kicked off the independent testing with a total of 5000 smart meters. The PUC Board had agreed to the testing and the installation of the new smart meters owing to the fact that the residents of the region have complained of a sudden increase in their electricity bill.

PUC Board officials told the media that the independent testing for the meters shall makes sure that the information which is being transmitted from all the 5000 smart meters will be monitored in accordance to the advanced metering infrastructure. They shall go ahead to monitor and trace back the history of the old meters and their operations which is believed to be the reason for sudden increase in the electricity bill amount. This shall also help to calculate the electricity bill for a particular individual when they finally install the smart meter.

The first phase of the test came to an end on Friday which had the PUC Board declaring that 1500 meters have been tested and found to meet the industry standards which vouches for the accuracy. The PUC Board shall now continue with the Mobile field testing for more 500 smart meters down at the service area of Oncor. Following the test which is said to achieve its completion in the upcoming month of June shall also witness PUC Board removing all previously installed meters and replacing them with the new ones. The old meters shall be taken to an independent testing lab for further testing.
