IRAN (GaeaTimes.com)- USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, an aircraft carrier serving the US navy was recently approached by a Fokker F27 plane turboprop reconnaissance plane in the Gulf of Oman. The aircraft owned by the Iranian air force came really close to the ship and it made the navy officials alarmed. They wanted to make sure it did not have any purpose to carry out an onslaught. However, later the US navy officials tried to pass off the incident as not very significant or threatening. The navy officials admitted that the incident caused worry initially but the aircraft did not cause any problem to the USS Eisenhower. The incident was flashed by a leading media outlet on Tuesday for the first time. It needs to be noted that the incident comes at a time when Iran has upped its military arsenal showcasing.
USS Dwight D. Eisenhower was approached by the Fokker F27 plane when it was in the Gulf of Oman. The plane reportedly came within 100 yards of the carrier which is quite close. In Persian Gulf the Iranian aircrafts are seen more frequently compared to the Gulf of Oman. The US navy officials said that the radars in the US ship were monitoring the movement of the plane even before it came close to it.
The Fokker F27 plane did not carry any weapon at that time as it was reported later. It stayed in close vicinity of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower for some time and then flew away. Maybe the Iranian wanted to showcase their aerial strength to the US navy fleet.
