A look at Colgate-Palmolive’s results by region
A closer look at how Colgate-Palmolive Co. fared in the first quarter:
LATIN AMERICA: Largest region at 26 percent of sales. Revenue grew 10.5 percent to $1 billion while volume rose in every country, rising 8 percent overall. Higher prices added 6.5 percentage points to growth, though foreign exchange hurt it 4 percent.
NORTH AMERICA: Makes up 20 percent of sales. Revenue grew 3 percent to $753 million, while the company sold 5 percent more products. Prices dropped 3.5 percent.
EUROPE/SOUTH PACIFIC: Makes up 22 percent of sales. Revenue grew 14.5 percent to $824 million, and volume jumped 7 percent. Pricing fell 3 percent but currency translation added 10.5 percent.
GREATER ASIA/AFRICA: Makes up 19 percent of sales. Revenue increased 14.5 percent to $730 million and volume gained 9 percent. Pricing fell 1 percent and currency translation helped sales by 6.5 percent.
HILL’S PET FOOD: Revenue grew 2 percent to $516 million, but volume fell 2 percent. Pricing dropped 0.5 percent and foreign currency exchange helped revenue by 4.5 percent.
