Summary Box: Gold extends recent gains; Corn rises
GOLD GAINS: Gold extended its gains as investors continued to seek safety. June gold rose $9.60 to settle at $1,171.80 an ounce.
CORN JUMPS: Corn for July delivery rose 10.25 cents, or 2. 9 percent, to settle at $3.64 a bushel. An analyst cited a big purchase by China of U.S. corn.
OIL ENDS SKID: Oil prices broke their two-day losing streak, even after a government report said that crude supplies in the U.S. continued to grow. Crude for May delivery rose 78 cents to settle at $83.22 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
