Summary Box: Moderating demand sends bonds lower
TIPS AHOY: Demand at an auction for 5-year Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities, or TIPS, was less than at an auction for 10-years earlier this month, especially among foreign investors.
MORE AUCTIONS: The Treasury will also auction 2-year, 5-year and 7-year notes this week. That could put upward pressure on interest rates if demand winds up being weak.
EYE ON THE FED: The Federal Reserve begins a two-day meeting on Tuesday. Its statement on the economy Wednesday will be scrubbed for clues about the Fed’s future plans on interest rates.
