Tharoor’s constituency backs him on IPL controversy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - People of Thiruvananthapuram have extended their full support to former Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor in connection with the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise row and termed his exit ‘unfortunate’ and a set back for Kerala.

“Tharoor’s resignation is a setback for Kerala. He just wanted a team from Kerala in IPL and that could have helped in the development of the state. If he had taken the team to any other state, it wouldn’t have harmed him personally,” said A Arun.

Many thought that his lack of experience in Indian politics led to his resignation.

“Tharoor has risen in politics very quickly. He became a minister at a young age. We had a lot of expectations from him. He was a representative of young India and could have developed the state in a modern way. He had less experience of our political set up. That led to his resignation,” said V Venugopal.

Tharoor resigned on Sunday night after the Congress Core Committee said that was the appropriate cause to take.

The Income Tax (I-T) department has said Tharoor did not benefit from the Kochi -IPL deal.

The ministry said the I-T department is probing IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi’s offshore money and trying to find out if stakeholders are fronts for Modi.

Meanwhile, a section of the media, has said that IT officials are probing Modi’s involvement in black money and betting. (ANI)
